Use Case #3 · Lead: TEKNIKER · AIM

Real-time incident prediction, detection & response.

An intelligent monitoring system designed to identify and respond to unsafe behaviours as they occur - proactively alerting violators and nearby drivers, reducing risks for everyone.

The Challenge

Secondary roads can hide outsized risk.

Secondary roads, often overlooked in traffic management, are frequent sites of dangerous violations - many with severe consequences. Speeding, impaired driving and risky overtaking aren't just legal infringements - they're serious safety risks that endanger drivers, passengers and pedestrians.

On highways and major roads, where vehicle speeds are higher, these violations dramatically increase the likelihood of severe accidents. Blind bends add another layer: drivers, rushing or acting recklessly, sometimes attempt to overtake in these high-risk zones, often underestimating the danger.

iDriving's response: intelligent, real-time monitoring that identifies unsafe behaviour as it occurs - proactively alerting violators and nearby drivers, fostering a safer road environment for all.

Where the Bizkaia & Alba Iulia pilots stand.

Per the D1.5 mid-term report (M01-M18), the Real-Time Detection, Warning and Response trial (T6.2) targets secondary roads in Romania and suburban areas in Bizkaia, Spain. Preparatory technical and dataset work is underway alongside V2X validation infrastructure.

Real-time incident detection on secondary roads

  • Coordination with scenario leaders to define an additional injured-person detection class.
  • Initial training dataset of crashed-vehicle scenes assembled from Roboflow.
  • Tekniker Dataspace Connector (TDC) under integration with Kafka and partner systems.
  • Detection focus: speeding, impaired driving, risky overtaking, blind-bend events.

Real-time incident response in a smart-city pilot

  • "C-ITS Mobile Lab" planned to validate V2X message exchanges (T6.5).
  • SIMAVI XR / in-vehicle app implementation underway with Kafka connectivity.
  • VMS & drone experiment locations being agreed with local authorities.
  • Detection focus: incident triage, dispatch alerts, intelligent traffic management.
