On 15 October 2026, the Law and Internet Foundation (LIF) held the first iDriving Policy Recommendations Workshop. The online session, led by LIF legal researcher Defne Halil, brought together 22 participants from the iDriving partner organisations.
From survey to recommendations
LIF leads iDriving’s work on EU policy recommendations. To be useful, these must reflect how things work in practice for the partners who develop and test the project’s solutions, from AI-based monitoring to digital twins, and the experience of the pilot sites in Austria, Croatia, France, Greece, Romania and Spain.
In March, LIF sent the technical partners a survey about their practical experience. It covered:
- access to and sharing of road safety data;
- compliance with EU rules such as the GDPR, the AI Act, the ITS Directive and the Data Governance Act;
- cybersecurity requirements;
- making tools work across different systems, countries and transport modes;
- the support partners need from EU and national authorities.
At the workshop, LIF presented the themes that emerged from the survey, and the partners went through them one by one, confirming or clarifying the interpretation. This makes the future recommendations traceable: each will rest on input that partners have both provided and reviewed, so policymakers can see where it comes from.
Next steps
The results will next be discussed with stakeholders outside the project, including public authorities, road operators, industry, research organisations and standardisation bodies. The final policy recommendations are planned for 2027, before the end of the project.
